When it comes to startups and entrepreneurship, most of the narrative in the past years have been focused on Silicon Valley. 2014 is the year where Southeast Asia proved itself to be a worthy challenger to the lead role, and people are beginning to take notice.

While funding rounds in this region have not quite reached the proportions of those seen in the West – which might be a good thing, since soaring valuations are not quite indicative of a healthy startup ecosystem – they are certainly considerably larger than those seen in years past.
