Indian early-stage investor Rehan Yar Khan has raised US$50M (INR 300 crore) for his maiden venture capital fund, Orios Venture Partners, to back technology entrepreneurs that are building the next generation of multi-billion dollar companies from India.
Orios will invest in early-stage companies from Seed to Series A and Series B, with investments ranging from US$82K (INR 50 lakh) to US$3.3M (INR 20 crore) in key growth sectors like Indian internet and B2B software products for global markets. The fund has been raised from ultra high net worth individuals (UHNIs), institutional investors and founding members.

As per media reports, the first investment will be in a software product company and in the 18 months’ investing period, the fund will look at eight to 12 investments.
From Angel to VC
Orios Venture Partners comprises an eminent advisory board of industry veterans including Rajan Anandan, Managing Director, Google India; Anupam Mittal, Founder and CEO of People Group which owns businesses such as Shaadi.com; Shujaat Khan, Managing Director, Blue River Capital; and Raj Chinai, Co-founder, Harvard Angels India.
Backing Orios is a ten member team, including a seasoned investing team many of whom have worked with Khan for close to a decade.
Since 2008, Khan has invested in 19 companies of which 15 companies from his portfolio have seen remarkable growth including Druva, OlaCabs, Jigsee (VuClip), Unbxd and PrettySecrets. He is a founding member of Indian Angel Network’s (IAN) Mumbai Chapter, IAN’s past board member, a TiE charter member and a honorary member of Harvard Angels and had led its initial investment in India.
