TabTale has had an impressive year of growth. To find out its next bold moves, Geektime reached out to TabTale CMO Guy Tomer.
Children’s mobile gaming startup TabTale has been on a serious role since raising a $12 million Series B round in October 2013: Not only did they acquire Chinese educational app developer Coco Play for $1 million in May 2014 as a crucial part of their expansion efforts into China, on Tuesday, they announced that they had acquired Serbian gaming studio Level Bit to help them expand their offerings to older audiences for an undisclosed sum.
When Geektime contacted them after the Series B round in 2013, TabTale explained that they aimed to offer content providers “the option of carrying and selling their own branded apps for them.” If more than 500 million of TabTale’s kids’ games have been downloaded since launching in 2010, a number that has more than doubled in the past 15 months, it appears that the sky is the limit for this high growth startup.

Beyond its two foreign acquisitions, TabTale has set up offices in four continents, with operations in Israel (its headquarters), the U.S., China, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Serbia: Level Bit’s 10-person Serbian staff will also fall under TabTale’s management.
When Geektime asked CMO Guy Tomer why TabTale has set up so many offices in Baltic countries, he replied that beyond TabTale’s general desire to find great talent all over the world, “With headquarters in Israel, working with studios in Eastern Europe is very natural for us because of the geo distance and the cultural similarity.”
In terms of new regions, he said that they have been in discussion with companies from “Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, the Far East, and North America.” He highlights that they are expanding to so many places because, “That’s the nature of the gaming industry – you can find great coders, art and game designers in many places and that allows fast growth and diversification in the capabilities.”
When asked if amidst TabTale’s ambitious growth strategy, they are considering either an IPO or exit, he said neither of those options are currently on the table. Still, this reporter expects that answer will change in the near future.

TabTale’s most famous games include Cheating Tom, Airheads Jump, and Max Axe, which were released under their Crazy Labs brand. The company, founded by Sagi Schliesser (CEO), Oran Kushnir (Chairman) and Nir Bejerano (CTO), consistently scores in the top 10 of mobile game publishers, including high rankings on App Annie. Their investors have included Magma Venture Partners, Qualcomm Ventures, and Vintage Investment Partners.
