When it comes to most software, you usually get two varieties – user friendly consumer software with limited functionality, or complex and clunky professional, “enterprise”, versions. This is just as true in the financial sector, where security and compliance requirements make the traditional research, organization, and sales tools of professional investors particularly complex.

Bipsync, a startup conceived in California and developed in Cardiff, Wales, seeks to merge the best of both worlds: to combine the robust features required by investment professionals with a user-friendly design and functionality found in consumer-oriented productivity software like Dropbox or Evernote.

The result is a platform that allows investment teams to capture information regarding potential investments, organize and analyze it, and then measure performance results in a collaborative and intuitive way. Bipsync offers both a free open beta for individuals and teams of up to three people, as well as subscription-based enterprise tiers for larger investment firms.

The company has already raised $1.5 million in seed financing from angel investors and Steadfast Venture Captial, but the most impressive source is funding arriving from the platform’s own users. “Thirty percent of our seed round funding came from individual investment professionals – end users investing their own private capital,” said Danny Donado, Bipsync Founder and CEO, in a statement. “There’s no better validation than delighted customers wanting to invest.” Notable investors include Stanford Lecturer Russell Siegelman, and TheMarkets.com founder David Eisner.

Donado is a former hedge fund analyst himself, and the Enterprise Beta version of the platform was privately tested with five hedge funds managing over $20 billion dollars in assets. Their feedback helped Bipsync evolve into what it is today – a platform that delivers unprecedented collaboration, organization, and sales tools for private investors and investment firms alike – while ensuring industry-standard security and specialized features.
